Mission Statement
"We exist to provide emergency relief in the name of Jesus Christ
with compassion, commitment and understanding,
upholding dignity"
“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” — Unknown
With this initiative, our goal is to ensure no-one needs to miss out on Christmas Dinner.
Christmas is an important time for our society as well as our faith life. It is a time when families can come together to renew and strengthen relationships. This can also create difficulties for those who are struggling week to week as there can be an added financial burden at Christmas. By supplying Christmas Hampers we hope ease the financial strain, help in the strengthening of family relationships and, just as importantly, show people we care and understand their struggles.
OUR ANNUAL COMMITMENT
Beautifully iced Christmas cakes supplied by the Wimmera Cake Decorators Guild
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
HOW WE CAN HELP
Come in and talk to
our friendly volunteers
Our emergency assistance service is available to help those people living in a large part of Western Victoria.
We support clients in the municipalities of Hindmarsh, Horsham Rural City, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack as well as some parts of the Buloke and Northern Grampians shires.
Food Parcels
Emergency food parcels are available for individuals and families in need. These can be accessed either directly from the Centre or by request from a social worker.
Food parcels can be sent by truck to most towns in the Wimmera and Southern Mallee.
Financial Assistance
Thanks to the provision of funds from the Federal Government we can, at times, also provide financial help to purchase medical prescriptions, fuel for an emergency situation or to help with outstanding bills. By necessity funds are capped.
Referrals
Referrals can be made to any outside agency depending on need. eg. to the Salvation Army for physical needs or Uniting Wimmera for accommodation or financial counselling.
A listening ear
Each client has the opportunity to tell their story to one of our caring interviewers.
