Each year the Christian Emergency Food Centre (CEFC) provides our clients with a Christmas hamper in order to ensure that no-one from Horsham and surrounding districts need go without Christmas dinner because of their financial situation.

In 2020 we provided around 550 hampers with each hamper costing between $65 - $70. These were funded, in a large part, by donations from Charitable Trusts and the addition of our own funds. Our funds are accumulated from donations provided by the public and sponsoring organisations.

In 2021 our major sponsors were:

  • CommBank Staff Fund

  • William Angliss Charitable Fund

  • Catholic Diocese of Ballarat

  • Horsham Rural City Council

Clients can access a Christmas hamper by registering directly with our Centre during November or by request from a social worker working with one of our associated agencies around the Wimmera and Southern Mallee. We do require recipients to have accessed our Centre at least once throughout the year in order to receive a hamper.

Two or three days in the the week before Christmas are set aside as packing and distribution days. The centre becomes a-buzz with excited volunteers moving stores, packing hampers, and handing out the completed hampers to our clients and agents. It's a huge effort but most of the volunteers involved come back year after year because its a worthwhile effort completed with much love,....and much laughter!
